When Fashion’s Night Out, the brainchild of Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, debuted last fall as a prelude to New York Fashion Week, its goals were simple: get the public excited about fashion and energized about shopping all while giving a much needed boost to retailers’ bottom lines during sour economic times. Indeed, with personal appearances, trunk shows and entertainment, the crowds came out, thronging stores in the world’s fashion capitals.
That FNO was so enthusiastically received by shoppers and retailers made the decision to again host this stylish event an easy one. Though there’s no need to buy buy a plane ticket to Milan, Paris, New York or Rio, as FNO is coming to metro Detroit ….
Specifically, the downtown Birmingham shopping district is the only entity in Michigan to be officially sanctioned by Fashion’s Night Out, which takes place Friday, September 10 from 6 – 9. More than 30 of downtown Birmingham’s boutiques and beauty salons will welcome guests with a range of events, from trunk shows, live entertainment, beauty classes and demonstrations, not to mention drinks, hors d’oeuvres and a few surprises. The store events are free to attend, as will be on street parking that evening; as always, downtown parking decks offer two hours free parking.
Dramatic lighting, live models on podiums and a display of new 2011 cars will add to the fashionable streetscape.
Participating stores include Roots, ArtLoft, lucy, Antonino Salon, Astrein’s Jewelers, The Annex, Pink Pump, Wachler Jewelers, The Claymore Shop, Roma Sposa and:
