Acne, age spots and skin blemishes affect nearly everyone, of all ages, at some point. Maintaining clear skin involves taking care of your skin on a daily basis and treating acne and other skin conditions as soon as they develop. By following these easy and affordable steps below,  you can obtain and maintain healthy, radiant and beautiful skin!

Step 1

Wash your skin twice each day with warm water and a mild, hypoallergenic soap. Typically you should wash your face in the morning after you wake up and at night before you go to bed. Exfoliate only as needed, typically once or twice each week. (Exfoliating too often can put your skin into overdrive and your skin will create access unwanted oil leaving your skin greasy).  After cleansing, pat your skin dry with a soft towel and then apply a water-based moisturizer.

Step 2

Eat a healthy, balanced diet that includes a variety of fruits, vegetables, fish, legumes and nuts. Foods high in antioxidants promote healthy skin. Also be sure to drink 6-8 glasses of water a day.

Step 3

Treat acne as soon as it develops and refrain from squeezing or pinching blemishes.  Squeezing will only make them worse and will cause the blemishes to flare up and become even more red and swollen. Leaving them alone will reduce the frequency of your breakouts and will prevent scaring.

Step 4

Protect your skin from the damaging effects of UV radiation. In addition to increasing the risk of skin cancer, excessive sun exposure can cause unwanted age spots, wrinkles, freckles and dryness. Wearing sunscreen every time you are outdoors is key.  Choose a daily moisturizer with an SPF level of 15 or higher.

Step 5

Exercise regularly to increase circulation to your skin. During a work out, try to refrain from wearing make up.  Even oil-free cosmetics can clog your pores.  Make certain to cleanse your face immediately after exercising to wash away sweat and dirt. This will prevent acne breakouts.

Step 6

Try to manage your stress in healthy ways. This is challenging for all of us but stress does contribute to break outs as well.  Spend some time with friends, start a hobby, take a long bath after work, practice yoga or treat yourself to a spa visit. Exercising on a regular basis is also known as a stress reliever.

Step 7

  • I always love to have healthy skin. Getting healthy skin is a bit difficult and sometimes costly. Skin vitamins and chemical peels maybe necessary to maintain it.

  • There are many skin conditions that are mainly caused by malnutrition. Make sure that you get adequate vitamins and minerals.

    Skin disorders can also be caused by inadequate intake of skin vitamins like Vitamins A,C and E.
