Are you a mom in your third trimester feeling extensive pain from your lower back down through your legs? If so, you could be a mom suffering from sciatica, which could be related to your pregnancy. It’s common for mom-to-be’s in their third trimester to be experiencing this type of pain. Some may even feel it in their second trimester, but it is most common throughout the third as the womb places pressure on the sciatic nerve.
If you’re one who is suffering from this, here are a few ways to relieve the pain and discomfort.
- Try to stay off your feet. If you must stand, takes turns relieving pressure from one foot at a time by resting it on a step or box.
- Excercise your pelvis by doing pelvic tilts. You can do this by kneeling on the floor with your hands below your shoulders and rocking your pelvis back and forth while keeping your back straight.
- Soak in a warm bath or use a heating pad under your doctor’s discretion.
- Spoil yourself to a prenatal massage, again be sure to check with your doctor first to get his approval.
