Experiencing Ehukai Pillbox Hike on Oahu’s North Shore
Let’s Go Hiking on the North Shore
The Ehukai Pillbox trail located on Oahu’s North Shore is better known as the Sunset Pillbox Hike because it offers a gorgeous view of Ehukai Beach. Some of you may have heard of the Banzai Pipeline or North Shore coastline. Ehukai Beach is in the same location and it’s gorgeous.
The entrance to the hike is in an awkward place. We found ourselves in the school carline at Sunset Elementary. Obviously the wrong place but just 50 feet away from where the car lines
The Sunset Pillbox Trail starts off flat then progressively inclines up the mountainside. For the most part, the trail consists of small boulders, fallen trees, eroded tree roots, and some human-made stairs dug into the side of the hill for climbing
Once you reach the top, beautiful views of the North Shore will be your reward.
The old military bunker is accessible to walk on top of for great views and inside of to explore around. There is a second Pillbox through the woods, adjacent to this location but we decided to obey the “No Trespassing” and “Guard Dog” signs. That Pillbox is located on private property.
