Michigan Fashion Week Offers State of Michigan Fashion Event to Support the Michigan Fashion Community

I was pleased to join an esteemed panel of fashion/business professionals at this year’s State of Michigan Fashion 2020 event held in TechTown in Detroit, Michigan. The event was hosted by Loren Hicks, founder of Michigan Fashion Week.

The room was full of local designers, bloggers, reporters and, retailers that were interested in the panel discussion that focused on three main questions:

  1. Your current opinion on the actual state of Michigan’s fashion scene.
  2. Ways we can improve the Michigan fashion scene.
  3. What is your organization doing to elevate the fashion scene & how can one get involved?

As a panelist, I was there to support my fellow entrepreneurs and to also help bring certain concerns to the table for a professional discussion in hopes that communication and raising awareness would allow us to build a stronger community in 2020 and the years to come. I represented my digital magazine, Detroit Fashion News at the event and was very pleased with the warm, inviting atmosphere. I thoroughly enjoy being a part of the Michigan Fashion scene and try to help however I can. This was an event that consisted of transparency and knowledge and it brought moments of awareness that led to helpful solutions and discussions.

What was the common denominator in everyone’s answers to the questions above? To work together. To remain transparent. To work hard. To support one another and focus on morals and real business ethics along the way. To stay focused on our craftsmanship but to also collaborate and support the craftsmanship of others as well to create a strong community rather than a community of competitiveness. In business, fashion or other, we want and need to get ahead in order to keep our brand alive and successful, right? But, we must not tear everyone else down in our community to reach that success. If we do, there will be no unity and when there is no unity, we have no community.
